Growing Up

I was born in 1988. My parents moved here about 1 year before that. I have lived in Myakka all my life and I wouldn't have it any other way. Myakka is the kind of place where you can take off with your best friend on the 4-wheeler and go fishing all day long. It doesn't have a big population and that is the way I want it to stay. Even when you take a trip down to the store you only pass about 10 cars and you know every single person that you pass. Even though some of us don't want Myakka to change, it is. More people move into Myakka everyday. Panther Ridge now has a ton of people living in it. I don't want it to change, but everything has to change sometime. Myakka is a great place to grow up and it is where I had the best time of my life.

I went to Myakka City Elem. for kindergarten through 5th grade. When I first started going there we were in the old school house with Mr. Redmon as our principal. In the middle of Kindergarten the school moved into portables on the "kickball" field. Then in 1st grade we moved into the new school, we actually had a cafeteria now, instead of Mrs. Ruth driving around serving each portable lunch in the lunch car. Then in 2nd grade it was announced that Mr. Redmon would be leaving the school and there would be a new principal. Everyone was really sad I even remember seeing Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Ortiz cry. I was really sad too, then I got used to the new principal, Mrs. Bennett, and she was really nice. I still miss Mr. Redmon and I know he will always be remembered at Myakka City Elem.

It was really fun growing up at Myakka City Elem. I thought our school was huge and there were lots of kids there. Then I went to Haile and it took a lot of time getting used to it there because there were so many kids and it was such a big school. It was like Myakka elem. times 20! I will be in 8th grade at Haile next year and I am starting to get used to it. I'm also starting to get used to the way Myakka is changing, but I will always remember how much fun I had growing up here.
